The mission of the Marion County Community Foundation is to serve as a resource for creating a bridge from today to an enhanced quality of life tomorrow for both current and future residents of Marion County. This includes supporting charitable purposes that enhance the quality of life in areas such as health, education, culture, religion, recreation, or the enhancement and preservation of the county’s heritage.
The Foundation's grant program aims to support creative and innovative programs, tackle current or emerging charitable opportunities, introduce services not currently offered, and embark on capital projects that enhance the quality of life in Marion County. They do not fund annual operating budgets or projects typically included therein. Preference is given to projects from coalitions of service providers, those that encourage matching funds, or are designed to be replicated. The grants aim to avoid duplicating efforts by other non-profits, and generally do not support crisis intervention, current budget support, debt reduction, or retrospectively funded projects. Emphasis is on projects serving broad population segments, with limited priority to narrowly sectarian religious programs unless they are ecumenical or address basic needs regardless of religious affiliation. Proposals are evaluated on merit, need, staff experience, goal clarity, long-term funding prospects, and project feasibility within the set timeframe. For basic grants, applicants can request up to $3,000 through a Simple Grant Request Form, with larger requests necessitating a Detailed Grant Application Form available on the Foundation's website.
