The New Mexico Department of Health, Division of Health Improvement, aims to reinvest civil money penalties (CMPs) collected from nursing facilities failing to meet federal health and safety standards. These funds support projects enhancing the quality of life and care for nursing facility residents in the State of Alaska.
The grant program focuses on utilizing CMP funds to facilitate quality improvement initiatives in nursing facilities. These initiatives should aim to directly or indirectly benefit nursing facility residents by enhancing their quality of care and life. Acceptable projects are those outside the normal operations of the facilities and must be grounded in current, evidence-based practices. The grant supports a wide range of activities, including assistance for residents in facilities that close or are decertified, support for resident and family councils, facility improvement initiatives, training for quality care improvements, and technologies to aid in communication and social interaction.
