The New York Foundation is committed to supporting community organizing, grassroots advocacy, and movement-building in New York City. Championing the resilience and vitality of New Yorkers, it focuses on empowering community groups and their leaders in the fight for racial, economic, gender, and climate justice. By backing grassroots initiatives, the Foundation aims to dismantle systemic barriers and promote a city that is just, equitable, and inclusive.
The New York Foundation Core Grants program offers substantial financial support, providing $45,000 per year for up to three years to established groups and up to five years for emerging groups. Beyond monetary assistance, the grants encompass access to essential capacity-building resources, including one-on-one community resource exchange support, probono legal services, skills-building workshops, responsive organizational development grants, and funding for youth internships. The program specifically prioritizes projects that are community-initiated and led, focus on power building and systemic change, pursue racial justice, and emphasize collaboration through coalition work with aligned organizations.
