The North Pacific Research Board (NPRB) focuses on enhancing our understanding of the North Pacific, Bering Sea, and Arctic Ocean ecosystems. Through competitive grant programs, NPRB addresses critical fishery management issues and ecosystem information needs, guided by its Science Plan. The board is committed to advancing scientific research that facilitates effective management and sustainable use of marine resources across these vital regions.
NPRB's Graduate Student Research Award program aims to fund Master’s and Doctoral students engaged in research that addresses scientific, technological, and socio-economic aspects relevant to the regions of the Gulf of Alaska, Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands, and Chukchi/Beaufort Seas. The grant, which amounts to $25,000 per recipient, is competitive and designed to support projects that align with themes identified in the current Science Plan. Since its inception in 2008, the program has supported 68 students, providing a significant contribution towards advancing knowledge and understanding of critical marine environments and issues.
