The Pop Culture Collaborative is a philanthropic resource and learning community aiming to transform the narrative landscape in America regarding people of color, immigrants, refugees, Muslims, and Indigenous peoples, especially focusing on women, queer, transgender, and/or disabled individuals. It aims to achieve this through partnerships with the social justice sector and industries like entertainment, advertising, and media to help audiences understand the past, present, and future of American society. The goal is to promote a pluralist culture where people engage in the hard work of belonging together in a just society.
Pop Culture Collaborative grants support U.S.-based non-profits, for-profits, and individuals (with fiscal sponsorship) working on projects that aim to reach mass audiences through pop culture stories, media, and social networks. These projects are intended to drive transformative experiences and encompass content development, audience engagement strategies, and immersive narrative environments through cultural, narrative, and behavioral change approaches. The grants prioritize five areas: artists advancing culture change, building the pop culture for social change field, culture change research, movement-led pop culture narrative strategies, and innovations in mass audience activation. Ideal grantee partners intersect pop culture and social change, showing emerging or pioneering leadership in narrative and culture change strategies, prioritizing authentic and equitable leadership from directly affected communities, and fitting their work into a long-term narrative change and culture change theory. Funding ranges are $50,000 to $100,000 for one year or $100,000 to $200,000 over two years.
