HI: Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP)

From USDA: Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)

We deliver conservation solutions so agricultural producers can protect natural resources and feed a growing world.

Type of Support

Overview

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is designed to assist farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners in integrating conservation practices into their working lands. It aims to offer technical and financial support to address various natural resource concerns, notably improving water and air quality, conserving ground and surface water, enhancing soil health, reducing soil erosion and sedimentation, improving or creating wildlife habitats, and mitigating drought and weather volatility. The program facilitates one-on-one collaboration between NRCS and producers to develop a conservation plan that promotes cleaner water and air, healthier soil, and better wildlife habitats, while also benefiting agricultural operations. EQIP supports the implementation of conservation practices that offer benefits such as reduced contamination from agricultural operations, efficient nutrient use, enhanced soil health for better climate change resilience, and the implementation of climate-smart practices for improved carbon sequestration and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
