WA: Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP)

From USDA: Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)

We deliver conservation solutions so agricultural producers can protect natural resources and feed a growing world.

Type of Support

Overview

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) serves as the flagship conservation initiative of the NRCS, aimed at integrating conservation into working agricultural lands. It offers both technical and financial support to agricultural producers and forest landowners to help tackle various natural resource concerns. Key areas of focus include improving water and air quality, conserving water resources, enhancing soil health, reducing soil erosion, creating or enhancing wildlife habitats, and mitigating the effects of drought and weather variability. EQIP empowers producers to adopt conservation practices that lead to more environmentally sustainable operations, potentially offering financial assistance for implementing these practices. Benefits of participating in EQIP include reducing contamination from agricultural activities, promoting efficient nutrient use, and implementing climate-smart practices that contribute to carbon sequestration and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
