The Norfolk Southern Hampton Roads Community Fund, in collaboration with the Hampton Roads Community Foundation, aims to distribute $1 million annually over five years to nonprofits dedicated to improving life in Hampton Roads. The grant targets organizations that address important areas such as Education and Workforce Development, Enriching the Community, and Sustainability. Specifically, it supports endeavors aimed at preventing student dropout, facilitating youth transition to post-secondary education or career programs, creating employment pathways for adults, addressing food insecurity, mental health support, homelessness, enhancing equity and inclusion, enriching arts and culture, improving public health and safety, and bolstering regional sustainability efforts including land, forest, and waterway restoration, as well as improving resilience against sea-level rise. Financially, the grant provides general support with variable award amounts based on the applying organization's budget size, with anticipated ranges tied to the organization's operational budget.
