The NYS Association for Reduction, Reuse, & Recycling (NYSAR3) is dedicated to supporting initiatives aimed at reducing waste, fostering reuse, and promoting recycling across New York State. They focus on educational and actionable programs to enable environmental sustainability and waste management practices within communities.
The grant program by NYSAR3 targets public and private K-12 schools, funding projects that implement or expand waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and composting programs, along with outreach efforts. Since its inception in 2005, over 100 schools have benefitted from the grants, contributing to a variety of successful sustainability projects across New York State. The program aims to encourage schools to develop or support existing programs aligned with the objectives of waste reduction, reuse, recycling (the 3 R's), and composting. Schools are invited to apply for funding for the upcoming school year, with the opportunity to receive up to $1,000 per awarded project. However, it's noted that due to limited funds, not all projects may be awarded, and awarded projects may not receive the full amount requested.
