To champion the power of stories to make complex issues relevant and inspire action
The Rainforest Journalism Fund is a $5.5 million initiative designed to enhance the quality and quantity of reporting on tropical rainforest issues crucial to the global climate conversation. It plans to support nearly 200 reporting projects and offers annual regional conferences to elevate the dialogue surrounding rainforest conservation efforts. Key themes include the role of tropical forests in the climate equation, drivers of deforestation, and solutions to halt deforestation. The fund offers travel grants ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 for journalists to cover stories that have been overlooked or underreported, particularly in mainstream American media. Projects must have a solid distribution plan for wide-reaching U.S. and/or European news outlets, and safety training for reporting in hostile environments is provided.
