The Sigma Xi Grants in Aid of Research program aims to enhance scientific excellence and achievement by fostering close relationships between students and mentors. This is achieved by offering hands-on research experiences to undergraduate and graduate students across various scientific and engineering disciplines.
The Sigma Xi GIAR program awards grants to support undergraduate and graduate students in conducting their research. With grant amounts up to $1,000 for general research and up to $5,000 for astronomy and $2,500 for vision-related research through designated funds from the National Academy of Sciences, the program covers expenses related to travel to research sites or the purchase of non-standard laboratory equipment needed for specific research projects. The program supports a wide range of research categories including but not limited to Anthropology, Behavioral Ecology, Cell Biology/Biochemistry, Chemistry, Climate Science, Computer Science/Mathematics, Conservation Biology, Ecology, Engineering, and Physics/Astronomy among others.
