The core purpose of the SAEM Foundation is to improve health by investing in academic emergency medicine career development, research, and education.
The AEUS Research Grant, funded by the SAEMF in association with AEUS, offers $10,000 over a one-year period to support research proposals focusing on the impact of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) on clinical practice and learning curves. The grant aims to address knowledge gaps regarding the effects of POCUS on patient outcomes and the training necessary to achieve proficiency. Research topics may include the application-specific or practice-specific impacts of POCUS, comparisons of emergency departments with and without POCUS, and identification of performance plateaus in POCUS learning curves. Grant expectations include measurable and reproducible research relevant to POCUS practice, advancing the field through evidence-based research, and addressing patient outcomes or education in POCUS. Awardees are expected to attend the SAEM Annual Meeting, submit progress reports, present research findings at the meeting, and publish a manuscript on their project.
