Third Wave Fund is the only national fund aimed at supporting youth-led Gender Justice activism to enhance the political power, well-being, and self-determination of communities of color and low-income communities in the United States. They believe in the leadership of directly impacted individuals, particularly young women of color and gender non-conforming youth, for designing and leading solutions to achieve substantial social justice changes by addressing root causes.
The Sex Worker Giving Circle (SWGC) is the first sex worker-led fund within a U.S. foundation, launched in spring 2018 to support movements led by sex workers, who are uniquely equipped to address and transform the challenges and oppressive conditions of their lives. The SWGC operates on a principle of providing resources to underserved sex worker communities, emphasizing support for work led by and for groups facing significant oppression, including undocumented people, transgender women of color, Black, Indigenous, and people of color, among others. It aims to fund a variety of initiatives, from harm reduction and safety planning to grassroots advocacy, organizational capacity building, and anti-stigma efforts, with grants ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 for groups or projects with budgets under $400,000. The initiative prioritizes sex worker communities most affected by oppression and with the least access to funding, planning to award at least $300,000 in grants in 2019.
