The AWMS Committee, since its initiation in 2012, is committed to actively involve tertiary students in the realm of scientific wildlife management. Through recognizing the importance of hands-on experience in operational activities, policy development, and research within this field, it aims to attract and nurture young, passionate members.
The underlying goal of the grant, initiated by the AWMS committee in 2011, is to foster greater recognition of student achievements in scientifically-based wildlife management research. The annual award supports students who are members of the AWMS and have completed a thesis of excellence within this field. The award aims not only at providing financial assistance but also at promoting the visibility of the student's research within the AWMS community. Additionally, it encourages awardees to remain actively involved with the society. The grant includes a membership contribution, conference benefits, and travel support with a total value of up to A$1500.
