Gateway Foundation strives to enrich St. Louis life and culture by supporting efforts to acquire, create, and improve tangible and durable art and urban design. It aims to foster and support cultural and artistic activities, occasionally related to educational activities, to improve the quality of life in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. Projects involving the acquisition, creation, or improvement of items of a durable, physical nature are prioritized.
The grant program by Gateway Foundation focuses on three strategic realms: grant making to non-profit arts organizations based in and operating throughout the St. Louis Metropolitan Area, support of lighting and parks projects integral to the cultural fabric of St. Louis, and sculpture loans to make art pieces accessible to the metro area's residents. These efforts aim to enhance the region's cultural and artistic landscape, promoting an enriched community life.
