Hennepin County provides funding and support to organizations to educate, engage, and motivate residents towards environmental stewardship and positive behavioral changes for the environment.
The Green Partners Grant supports projects that aim to prevent waste, manage organic waste, recycle, reduce household hazardous waste, fight climate change, protect local wildlife (such as birds, bats, and pollinators), and enhance air and water quality. It awards three types of grants: Environmental Action Grants focus on motivating adults through specific environmental actions; Youth Environmental Education Grants aim to educate and turn youth into environmental stewards; Youth Green Jobs Grants invest in green job education and training for youth, emphasizing create pathways to green employment. Environmental Action and Youth Environmental Education grants offer up to $25,000 for returning grantees, with a possibility of $50,000 for two-year projects, and up to $12,000 for new applicants. Youth Green Jobs grants allow for up to $30,000 for new projects.
