The Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation aims to unite community members to mobilize resources to advance a racially just society and equitable outcomes for residents of Oak Park, River Forest, and surrounding communities. Their mission revolves around promoting equity, inclusivity, and courage, working towards a racially just society in which all community members thrive and prosper.
The OPRFCF Community Grants program is designed to respond to community needs identified through a participatory assessment, focusing on Education, Health Care/Mental Health, Wealth and Representation, and Safety and Housing. These grants support programming, advocacy, and capacity building that promotes the teaching of minority histories, addresses racial achievement gaps, increases access to quality education, and establishes equitable disciplinary standards. In health, the focus is on culturally sensitive services for BIPOC families and reducing barriers to mental health services. Regarding wealth and representation, it aims to support reparations in housing, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship, particularly for the youth and BIPOC communities. For safety and housing, the grant prioritizes violence protection, engagement, and advocacy to tackle housing instability and homelessness.
