Colorado Parks and Wildlife aims to advance and balance outdoor recreation with conservation efforts across the state of Colorado. They focus on collaboration and networking to support their mission.
The Human-Bear Conflict Reduction Community Grant Program aims to assist local Colorado communities in reducing conflicts between humans and black bears. It encourages the development and replication of innovative solutions across the state to prevent such conflicts, working in coordination with existing bear management strategies and safety measures. Projects eligible for funding include those that either reduce the availability of attractants for black bears or discourage bears from entering high-conflict areas, have community support or plans for gaining it, are cost-effective and sustainable beyond the grant period, and utilize or explore effective conflict prevention techniques. Funding considerations focus on the project’s potential to address existing conflict situations, likelihood of success, applicant’s community involvement and expertise, local necessity, feasibility, geographic funding distribution, cost-effectiveness, and local government and CPW staff support. A total of $1 million is available through this program, with individual grants ranging from $50,000 to $500,000.
