Since 1991, MCFA has dedicated itself to promoting environmental causes across the Americas. It aims to support projects that help in biodiversity conservation, environmental education, environmental justice, and sustainable development, seeking to protect natural resources, educate the public on environmental issues, support the rights of marginalized communities, and promote sustainable business practices.
The grant program from MCFA focuses on supporting projects within four key areas: Biodiversity Conservation, where efforts to conserve biological diversity and natural resources are emphasized, including supporting research and the creation of protected areas; Environmental Education, aiming to enhance public awareness and appreciation for natural resource conservation; Environmental Justice, supporting marginalized communities' rights to a clean and safe environment and participation in environmental decision-making; and Sustainable Development, which focuses on local livelihood development in environmentally sensitive areas, supports for small and medium enterprises in developing countries, and the promotion of sustainable business practices. Ideal proposals are welcomed during the first quarter of the calendar year and should align with these central aims.
